The Print & Printed Packaging framework  will provide you with work based training to undertake key manufacturing, craft and technical roles in the Print industry.

At both Level 2 and 3, you can choose from a range of pathways including Digital Print Production, Machine Printing, Print Finishing 

Re-press tends to be mainly computer and office based and both printing and finishing are highly practical and skilled areas of work. In all areas you must have an eye for detail and complete work to the highest standards.

Apprenticeship applicants are welcomed from a range of diverse backgrounds and it is anticipated that they may have a range of differing experiences, achievements and/or qualifications.

Pathway options and levels

Print and Printed Packaging - Level 2

Pathway 1: Supports the job roles of Scanning Technician, Proofing Technician, Pre-Press Technician/Plate Maker, Desk Top Publisher and Graphic/Print Designer.

Pathway 2: Supports the job role of Machine Printer.

Pathway 3: Supports the job roles of Guillotine Operator, Folding Machine Operator and Binding Machine Operator.

Print and Printed Packaging - Level 3

Pathway 1:  Supports the job roles of Experienced Scanning Technician, Experienced Proofing Technician, Experienced Pre-Press Technician/Plate Maker, Experienced Desk Top Publisher and Experienced Graphic/Print Designer.

Pathway 2: Supports the job role of Lead/Experienced Machine Printer.

Pathway 3: Supports the job roles of Print Finishers

Level 2: Routes include:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • Employment
  • Higher level jobs
  • Assessor and Verifier Awards Qualifications
  • In-house training to aid progression
  • Higher/Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design, Construction and the Built Environment or the Creative and Media
  • Related Engineering Apprenticeship

Level 3: Routes include:

  • Employment   
  • in-house company training or external learning
  • Level 4 Apprenticeship
  • Related Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Higher/Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design, Construction and the Built Environment or Creative and Media.
  • higher level jobs within the Print industry such as Shift Manager/Department Manager
  • Assessor and Verifier Awards qualifications
  • further training in Management & Leadership, Lean Manufacturing or Business Improvement Techniques
  • Progressing to an industry related undergraduate programme e.g. Engineering, Science or Business Studies.

Qualifications

 Level 2: NVQ Certificate in chosen pathway.

 Level 3: NVQ Certificate/Diploma in chosen pathway.

What are the entry requirements for this pathway?

All apprenticeship pathways in Wales have entry requirements.
If you are interested in undertaking this pathway – you need to have the following entry level qualification(s);

Level 2

Examples of requirements that will be considered as a suitable basis for entry to the framework include:

  • Previous work experience or employment, supported by a portfolio of evidence.
  • Voluntary or community based work.
  • Proof of completion of non-accredited courses.
  • Achievement of Awards, Certificates or Diplomas in a related industry such as Manufacturing, Engineering, Construction or Creative industries.
  • Achievement of a 14-19 Diploma in Manufacturing & Product Design or Construction & the Built Environment or Creative and Media.
  • Welsh Baccalaureate - Foundation, Intermediate or Advanced Diploma.
  • GCSEs: Typically, 4 GCSEs D - F for a Level 2 Apprentice and A* - C for a Level 3. These should include English and Maths.

Level 2: No formal entry requirements. 

Level 3
