Construction is an industry which requires a variety of different skills and abilities.

From plumbing to bricklaying, and town planning to project management, completing a construction apprenticeship gives you the necessary practical skills to enter this hands-on sector

Construction refers to the planning, building and repair of the built environment. There are a wide range of specialist trades in the construction industry, which are primarily engaged with working in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Most construction work involves small repairs and renovations, but can include major work to infrastructure.

A career in construction can take a great many forms. There are jobs in building, bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry, surveying and site management. These different trades will regularly cross paths during construction projects.

Construction Specialist - Level 2

Pathway 1: Supports roles such as  Scaffolder, Steeplejack and Lightning Conductor Engineer

Pathway 2:  Supports the role of Built-up-Felt Roofer

Pathway 3:  Supports the role of Roof Sheeter and Cladder

Pathway 4:  Supports the role of Wall and Floor Tiler

Pathway 5:  Supports the role of Kitchen/bathroom fitter

Pathway 6:  Supports the role of Floor layer

Pathway 7:  Supports job roles such as Dry Liner, Ceiling Fixer Partitioner and Access Floorlayer

Pathway 8:  Supports the role of Mastic Asphalter

Pathway 9:  Supports the jroles of Solid Plasterer and Fibrous Plasterer

Pathway 10: Supports the role of Roof Slater and Tiler

Pathway 11: Supports the role of Banker Mason

Pathway 12: Supports the role of Insulation and building treatments installer

Pathway 1: Supports the roles of Plasterer and Fibrous Plasterer

Pathway 2: Supports the role of Roof Slater and Tiler

Pathway 3: Supports the role of Banker Mason

Pathway 4: Supports the role of Wall and Floor Tiler

Pathway 5: Supports the roles of Stonemason, Bricklayer, Painter and Decorator, Wall and Floor Tiler, Plasterer, Bench Joiner, Roof Slater and Tiler

Pathway 6: Supports the role of Mastic Asphalter

Pathway 7: Supports the role of Thermal Insulation Engineer

Duration

Level 2: 12–18 months

Level 3: 14 months

Progression routes

Level 2: NQV Level 3 in chosen pathway, employment, following work experience there are opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas.

Level 3: NVQ Level 6 Diploma in chosen pathway, Further or Higher Education such as HNC/HND/Foundation Degree, Employment.  

Qualifications

Level 2: Diploma/Extended diploma/Level 2 NVQ Certificate/

Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Diploma in chosen pathway.

Level 3: Diploma/Edexcel Level 3 Diploma/Level 3 NVQ Diploma/

NOCN Level 3 Diploma in chosen pathway.

What are the entry requirements for this pathway?

All apprenticeship pathways in Wales have entry requirements.
If you are interested in undertaking this pathway – you need to have the following entry level qualification(s);

Level 2

There are a variety of ways to enter an apprenticeship in Construction Specialist, for example:

• previously worked in construction e.g. as a labourer

• Welsh Baccalaureate, including the Principal Learning qualification in Construction and the Built Environment at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.

• Essential Skills Wales Application of Number and Communication or any of the wider Key Skills

• NVQ Level 1 in a construction occupation

• A Levels and GCSEs

• work experience and a positive attitude

• Pre-Apprenticeship Learning

• Young Recruits Programme

Level 2:  No additional entry requirements.  

Level 3

There are a variety of ways to enter an apprenticeship in Construction Specialist, for example:
