As a Manager you would be playing an integral role in supporting organisational objectives through a wide range of functions.

Tasks undertaken vary depending on the level and sector in which you are employed.  These may include planning, allocating and monitoring the work of the team, providing feedback, briefing teams, supporting team members, managing conflict, resolving problems, procuring supplies, project management, agreeing budgets and managing and improving customer service.   

Managers operating at level 5 would be involved in setting and supporting organisational objectives through a wide range of functions, such as informing strategic decision making, managing budgets, planning and implementing change, leading teams and managing programmes of complimentary projects.

Employers are looking to attract apprentices who have a strong interest in a career in management. They expect applicants to demonstrate a "can do" attitude and have basic numeracy, literacy and communication skills.

Pathway options and levels

Team Leading – Level 2

Supports the role of Team Leader, Floor Manager, Helpdesk Manager, Trainee Supervisor and Team Co-ordinator. 

Management - Level 3

Supports the role of Section Manager, First Line Manager, Assistant Manager, Trainee Manager, Senior Supervisor and Junior Non-commissioned Officer.

Management- Level 4

Supports the role of Manager, Head of Function and Area Manager.

Management and Leadership - Level 5

Supports the role of Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Department and Director.

Level 2: 15 months

Level 3: 17 months

Progression routes

Level 2 Routes include:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship/Further education /Welsh Baccalaureate
  • Progress to managerial roles.

Level 3 Routes include:

  • Higher Apprenticeship
  • Further or higher education/Foundation Degrees/ undergraduate programmes
  • Level 4 and above management and professional qualifications.
  • Progress to senior managerial roles.

Level 4: Routes include:

  • Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship/ Level 6 qualifications /Higher education including Degrees or Masters in Management & Leadership, Business and Business Management/ specialised qualifications/ possible membership of professional bodies.
  • Progress senior management, director roles and chief executive positions.

Level 5  Routes include:

Level 6 qualifications/ higher education/ Degrees or Masters in Management & Leadership, Business and Business Management/ Specialised qualifications/ Membership of professional bodies/Progression to senior management, director roles and chief executive positions.

Qualifications

Level 2: Diploma in Team Leading

Level 3: Diploma in Management

Level 4: NVQ Diploma in Management

Level 5: NVQ Diploma in Management and Leadership

What are the entry requirements for this pathway?

All apprenticeship pathways in Wales have entry requirements.
If you are interested in undertaking this pathway – you need to have the following entry level qualification(s);

Level 2

Level 2: No specific entry requirements.

Level 3

Level 3: There are no entry requirements however, it is likely that level 3 apprentices will have some prior experience in a managerial or team leader role, although this is not a formal requirement.

Level 4

Level 4: There are no entry requirements for this pathway.  However, it is likely that Apprentices will have some prior experience in a customer service role, although this is not a formal requirement.

Level 5

Level 5: There are no entry requirements for this pathway. However, it is expected that higher apprentices will have significant experience of working at a middle management level to ensure they have the suitable foundations on which to further build their knowledge and skills.
