About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Coordinating air traffic to and from military airfields
• Part of the team that orders Typhoon jets to scramble and intercept.
• Controlling fighter, surveillance, refuelling and unmanned aircraft as they support missions at home and overseas.
• Working alongside civilian controllers as an Area Radar Controller, making sure military aircraft doesn’t clash with civilian airliners.
• Giving specialist battlespace management support to both UK and international missions around the world,
• Travelling on military operations as a Tactical Air Traffic Controller, setting up temporary runways.

Additional information

As an apprentice in the RAF, you will be trained to play a role in the RAF’s mission to defending the skies of the UK and projecting the UK’s power and influence around the world. You will also be involved with assisting to deliver humanitarian aid around the world as directed by the UK Government. You could work at multiple locations in the UK.

Qualifications

Have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or Scottish National 5 at Grade C in English Language, Maths and at least 3 other subjects.
Have at least 2 A2 levels.3 Highers at Grade C or above (excluding General Studies or Critical Thinking) which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points. Or hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or higher (or acceptable alternative)

Throughout the RAF application process, you will do an Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), selection interview and medical suitability and fitness test. You will then attend Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre (OASC), controller medical.
