About the apprenticeship

Duties

You will spend one day per week at the Newport and District Group Training Association (NDGTA) and the remaining days will be spent gaining hands on experience within the business. You will rotate through numerous departments of the business, gaining knowledge and skills. This will include:
Collaborate with Teams – Work closely with operational and quality teams to set objectives, monitor performance, and help implement effective improvement plans.
•Get Practical Experience – Support audits, on-the-job training, and validation processes while contributing to continuous improvement and resolving production quality issues.
•Use Data to Drive Change – Analyse quality data to develop and track improvement plans, ensuring products and services meet strict manufacturing and validation standards.
•Maintain High Standards – Assist with compliance tasks such as managing non-conformities, handling customer feedback, maintaining accreditations, and monitoring outsourced providers.
•Be a Key Contact – Act as a point of support for internal teams and customers, helping prevent quality risks and using structured problem-solving methods like 8D.
•Learn and Share Best Practice – Gain experience in coaching and mentoring operational teams to reinforce quality standards and best practices.

Additional information

After completing your HNC, you'll have the opportunity to secure a full-time role within one of our departments or continue your apprenticeship by progressing to further study and achieving your HND.

Skills

An interest in engineering from school, hobbies, or other experiences
Positive work ethic and the ability to work both alone and with others
Willingness to learn and try new challenges
Strong communication, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
The ability to plan and organise yourself
A good level of IT literacy

Qualifications

Successful candidates should ideally have or be on track to achieve at least a merit in an Engineering related BTEC Level 3. You also should have completed your GCSE's including Maths, English, Science, and a preferably a Technology subject, at grades A–C or 4–9.
