About the apprenticeship
Duties
Job Purpose:
The Apprentice CNC Machinist will develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to operate CNC machining equipment safely and effectively within a UK manufacturing environment. The role combines on-the-job learning (minimum 80%) with off-the-job training (minimum 20%), leading to a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification and successful completion of the End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Key Responsibilities – CNC Machining & Production:
- Assist with setting, operating, and basic programming of CNC machines
- Load materials, tooling, and CNC programs in accordance with procedures
- Monitor machine performance and report issues
- Carry out secondary operations such as deburring and cleaning
- Progress towards independent machine operation as competence increases
Engineering Drawings & Specifications:
- Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances
- Follow work instructions and quality standards
- Understand basic tooling, materials, and cutting data
Quality Control & Inspection:
- Perform dimensional inspections using measuring equipment
- Accurately record inspection and production data
- Report any non-conforming parts in line with quality procedures.
Additional information
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Follow risk assessments, COSHH, and safe systems of work
- Use PPE correctly and maintain a safe working environment.
Maintenance & Housekeeping:
- Assist with routine machine checks and basic maintenance
- Carry out tool changes under supervision
- Maintain 5S and workplace cleanliness standards

Qualifications
Desirable:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Engineering or Design Technology qualification.
Previous workshop or manufacturing exposure.
