About the apprenticeship

Duties

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Commis Chef to join our small culinary team at our small hotel, with bar and restaurant, located in rural Mid-Wales. As a Commis Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen operations, ensuring that food production runs smoothly and efficiently. This position is ideal for individuals looking to develop their culinary skills in a fast-paced restaurant environment while adhering to food safety standards. Your enthusiasm for hospitality and teamwork will contribute to creating exceptional dining experiences for our guests. Our historic hotel is set in the heart of the beautiful town of Montgomery and boasts an impressive 400 year history.

Daily duties:

Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes under the supervision of the Head Chef.
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in accordance with health regulations.
Support the kitchen team by ensuring that all ingredients are prepped and ready for service.
Help in the organisation of kitchen stations and ensure cleanliness throughout the kitchen area.
Collaborate with chefs to learn cooking techniques and improve culinary skills.
Participate in menu planning and contribute ideas for new dishes or improvements.
Assist in supervising junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and cleaned after use.
To be dressed in a clean and professional manner.

The Dragon Hotel is a 17th century former Coaching Inn set in historic Montgomery just below the old castle ruins, surrounded by glorious Mid-Wales/Shropshire rolling countryside.  There is a real family feel to working here and you will be given lots of opportunities to develop your skills and experience.  Meals can be provided along with free parking and tips are shared with the team.
No formal qualifications are required, but you need to be keen to learn and have a real interest in hospitality.

Skills

A strong interest in culinary arts and a desire to learn from experienced chefs
A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional service to guests.
Previous experience in food production or as a cook is advantageous but not essential.
Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations is desirable  but not essential as you will receive full training in this area.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and be reliable.
Well organised with good attention to detail, ensuring high-quality food preparation.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
