About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Remove, repair and replace vehicle body panels to manufacturer specifications
• Repair both structural and non-structural vehicle body damage
• Refurbish and repair vehicle trim components
• Carry out thermal joining processes including welding
• Use non-thermal joining techniques, bonding and adhesives
• Work with joining technologies such as MIG, MAG, TIG and resistance spot welding
• Identify and correct vehicle body structural misalignment
• Use alignment jigs and specialist equipment to restore vehicle geometry
• Interpret manufacturer repair specifications and follow approved repair processes
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
• Work efficiently to meet quality and safety standards
• Communicate clearly with team members during the repair process

Additional information

This Apprenticeship will begin at Level 2 Vehicle Damage Panel Technician, with the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 qualification once the Level 2 programme has been successfully completed.

This structured programme allows you to earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience repairing a wide range of vehicles while developing the technical skills required to become a fully qualified panel technician. You will be supported throughout the Apprenticeship with workplace mentoring, structured training and assessor-led learning.

Qualifications

Due to Apprenticeship funding and qualification requirements, candidates must meet the following criteria:
For Level 2 Apprenticeship Entry
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade D/Grade 3 or above
For Progression to Level 3 Apprenticeship
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/Grade 4 or above
Candidates without the required grades for Level 3 may still begin at Level 2, with support to progress.
