About the apprenticeship

Duties

This varied role offers the chance to gain hands-on experience working with unique historical collections, helping to preserve and promote the documentary heritage of Gwent for future generations. You will support access to archive collections both onsite and online, assist with cataloguing and preservation activities, and contribute to exhibitions, outreach projects and digital engagement initiatives

You will gain practical experience in areas such as archive collections management, digitisation, preservation, customer service and community engagement, while learning from experienced professionals and making a valuable contribution to preserving the history of local communities.

Whether your experience comes from education, volunteering, work or personal interests, we'd love to hear how your skills and enthusiasm could contribute to the work of Gwent Archives. Training and support will be provided to help you develop and thrive in the role.

As an Archives Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience working with unique historical collections while helping to preserve and promote Gwent's documentary heritage for future generations. Working as part of a supportive team, you will help people discover and access archive collections both onsite and online, assist with cataloguing, digitisation and preservation work, and contribute to exhibitions, educational activities, community projects and digital engagement initiatives.
Throughout the Apprenticeship, you will receive training and support to develop valuable skills, knowledge and experience within the archives and heritage sector.
