About the apprenticeship

Duties

During your electro-mechanical maintenance apprenticeship, you will learn how to repair and maintain all our plant equipment including large transfer and progression presses and robot welding machines.

Additional information

Your training will include the use of an array of different machinery (mill, drill, lathe, grinder) and computer numerically controlled machinery (CNC). You will become proficient in different types of welding (Mig, Tig, Arc), Robotics, PLC Interrogation, servo drives, pneumatics/hydraulics and 17th Edition electrical knowledge.

Working as part of our maintenance team you will attend breakdowns and support production in maintaining machine uptime. Shift work may be required.

During your first year you will be based entirely at Coleg Gwent in order for you to learn the basics. Years 2,3, and 4 will have you primarily working at our facilities in Ebbw Vale or Tredegar with day release to Coleg Gwent for further development.

If you are successful in the first 2 years of your apprenticeship, there is the potential to work towards a HNC qualification to further increase your skillset and knowledge.

Must have a interest in Engineering and a desire to progress earning the following qualifications:

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Engineering

Qualifications

5x GCSE’s Grades 9-4 (A*-C) including English and Maths
