Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the maintenance of all machinery and carrying out any necessary repairs.
• Work in line with the preventative maintenance plan.
• Support with organising service contracts for machinery.
• Work with the team to carry out building maintenance.
• Deal and liaise with external contractors.
• Ensure necessary maintenance records are kept up to date for audits.
• Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.
• Produce documentation, including operating procedures and technical reports.
• Track your workplace accomplishments to meet learning outcomes.
• Plan and attend progress meetings with colleagues.
• Work with engineers and technicians to implement or improve processes.
• Work with engineers and technicians to complete personal competencies record.
• Attend Coleg Landrillo, on average, once per week.

During your Apprenticeship, you will receive a combination of hands-on workshop experience and structured off-the-job learning designed to develop your skills in maintaining and supporting electrical systems within a manufacturing environment. The training will also cover preventative maintenance, health and safety practices, and industry standards, helping you build a strong foundation for a long-term career in electrical maintenance engineering.

Specific training will include but won’t be limited to:
• Hands-on experience with electrical systems
• Completion of supervised maintenance tasks
• Taking responsibility for small breakdowns
• Building confidence with real-world troubleshooting
• CMMS (computerised maintenance management systems)
• Basic data logging and trend analysis
• Communication during breakdowns and handovers
• Preventative and predictive maintenance routines
• Fault finding under time pressure
• Wiring, cable termination and panel building
• Use of multimeters, insulation testers and other diagnostic tools
• Understanding motors, drives, sensors and control circuits
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics
• Working effectively with operators, engineers and team leaders

The training and experience will focus predominantly on electrical maintenance, however there will also be mechanical elements included to broaden your knowledge and skillset.
You will also have the opportunity to spend time shadowing colleagues in other departments, ensuring you witness the entire optical production process from raw glass to finished, polished and coated parts.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science (Grace 4/C or above preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
• NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations is desirable, otherwise must also be undertaken as part of the Apprenticeship
