About the apprenticeship
Duties
The programme begins with your first year spent in full-time study at the Newport and District Group Training Association (NDGTA), conveniently located just across the road from our Cwmbran site. Focusing on developing the core engineering skills that will form the foundation of your future career—such as working with tools and understanding essential processes.
From year two onwards, you'll move into a blended learning approach: working on-site four days a week to complete your practical qualification and apply what you've learned, while spending one day per week back at college to continue your academic studies.
Requirements
Skills
An interest in engineering from school, hobbies, or other experiences
Positive work ethic and the ability to work both alone and with others
Willingness to learn and try new challenges
Strong communication, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
The ability to plan and organise yourself
A good level of IT literacy
Qualifications
At least five GCSEs (or be on track to achieve them)
Subjects to include:
Maths
English
Science
Preferably a Technology subject
Grades: A–C or 4–9
Important:
If you haven't completed your GCSEs yet, you may receive a conditional offer, confirmed once you provide evidence of meeting the required grades on results day.
