About the apprenticeship
Duties
Under the direction/guidance of senior staff, provide general administrative and financial support to the school.
Organisation
Working at the reception desk, welcoming visitors and answering enquiries by telephone and in person, and signing visitors in.
Assisting with pupil welfare duties, caring for pupils who are unwell, liaising with parents/staff, etc.
Assisting with arrangements for school trips, events, etc.
Administration
Providing general clerical support, e.g. photocopying, filing, completing standard forms and responding to general correspondence.
Maintaining manual and computerised records/information management systems.
Compiling lists, information and data as required, e.g. pupil data.
Typing, word processing and carrying out other IT-related tasks.
Taking notes at meetings.
Organising and distributing incoming post and preparing outgoing post for dispatch.
Undertaking routine administrative procedures.
Maintaining and collecting pupil reports.
Undertaking routine administration relating to school premises, facilities and other uses of school grounds.
Requirements
Skills
Essential Criteria:
Effective use of ICT packages.
Ability to use relevant equipment and resources.
Good typing skills.
An understanding of relevant policies and codes of practice, together with an awareness of relevant legislation.
The ability to relate well to both children and adults.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of school staff and your own role within the team.
Training:
As part of this Apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:
On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school environment.
Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development and learning strategies.
Regular assessments and feedback – to monitor progress and develop skills.
Additional learning support – particularly in literacy, numeracy and communication.
