About the apprenticeship
Duties
Main Responsibilities:
• Support for Pupils .
• Support learners' access to education, wellbeing and engagement in learning activities.
• Develop positive and professional relationships with learners based on trust, consistency and respect.
• Promote learner independence, confidence and resilience.
• Support learners with a range of Additional Learning Needs, including social, emotional, behavioral, communication and sensory needs.
• Assist learners to achieve targets identified within Individual Development Plans (IDPs) under the guidance of teaching staff and the ALNCo.
• Encourage learner participation in classroom activities and wider school life.
• Support learners during transitions, breaktimes, off-site activities and educational visits.

Essential Requirements
Education and Experience
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
• Experience of working with relevant age groups within a learning environment.
• An interest in supporting children and young people with Additional Learning Needs, including those with complex needs, with a willingness to develop knowledge and skills through training and practical experiences.
• Experience of general clerical/administrative work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.
• Able to use basic ICT including computers, audio, video equipment and photocopier.
• An ability to understand the principles of child development and learning processes and in particular barriers to learning.
• Ability to relate well to children.
• Ability to relate well to adults.
• Ability to observe, monitor and provide constructive feedback on pupils progress.
• Ability to stay calm and be patient and understanding when dealing with children.
• To be able to deal with inappropriate behaviour in a calm and non-judgmental way following school guidance. Ability to successfully complete first aid training as required.
• Ability and willingness to identify own training needs and participate in training .
• To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.
