About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Support the on-boarding process of potential and approved Foster Carers
• Supporting Children and their Foster Carers eg during induction period
• To provide placement stability support to Foster Carers as required per care and support plan eg at times of challenges, following an allegation
• Support Foster Carers Learning and Development needs
• Support Recruitment and Retention events such as Fostering Fortnight, ‘Sons & Daughters’, consultation events
• To bring to the attention of the case accountable social worker and team manager any immediate concerns regarding the safety of the child/ young person.
• Completion of direct work with foster carers as directed by Team Managers
• To attend meetings as required
• To maintain all electronic records ensuring information held is accurate and up to date.
• To contribute to the achievement of the objectives and performance targets of the department.

To complete the Apprenticeship Framework and undertake any other training relevant to the role including coaching from a supervisor and on the job training.

Who We’re Looking For
Foster Wales RCT is part of Council’s Children’s Services Department and is responsible for the recruitment, assessment and support of mainstream Foster Carers, Kinship Foster Cares and Special Guardians. The Service also provides placement services for the whole of Children's Services.
Foster carers and Special Guardians play a vital role in the lives of vulnerable children, providing them with a sense of stability and security during difficult times. Foster carers require all sorts of support to be able to make a positive impact on the life of a child, helping them to grow and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, passionate individual who is enthusiastic about achieving positive outcomes for care experienced children and young people by working within Foster Wales RCT. You will be part of a busy fostering service that also supports and supervises foster carers, recruits, and provides placement services.

What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a QCF (Qualification Credit Framework, formerly NVQ) qualification in Business Administration, Level 3 via a training provider or local college.

What will you be paid?
This is a fixed term post for a two-year period and will start in September 2024. You will be paid National Minimum Wage dependent on age:

• 21 & over £11.42
• 18 - 20 £8.60
• Under 18 £6.40

Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at level 3 or above in the role applied for.

For example, if you have a degree in Civil Engineering you will not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship post. However, you could apply for any other apprenticeship post. Any such applications will not be considered.

Requirements

Skills

An understanding of Council services.
An understanding of Fostering services.
Relevant office based experience, inputting and retrieving data from computer based systems.
Able to complete tasks in agreed timeframes and work to deadlines.

Qualifications

Ability to undertake a QCF qualification via College/Training Provider related to the job.
Confident using IT (for example: email and word processing).
