About the apprenticeship

Duties

1. Providing administrative support as part of the Housing Grants and Building Control Team to deliver an effective and efficient Grant & Building Control Services.

2. Assisting senior members of the team to provide advice and information in respect of Housing Grant Assistance eligibility, and Building Regulations applications to prospective applicants in person, via telephone and in writing.

3. To contribute to the registration of referrals for Disabled Facilities Grants, and applications for Maintenance Repair Assistance, Renovation Grant Assistance, and Minor Works of Adaptations on the grants database.

4. Corresponding with grant applicants in person, via telephone and in writing using standard letters to share and gather information and documentation required to progress grant applications.

5. Assist Building Control Assistant Technician to create and process Building Regulation applications, to the point of validation, including providing general application advice, calculation of fees, registering of the application, issuing standard acknowledgement and validation letters using electronic systems, and to utilise relevant systems.

6. To assist Building Control Assistant Technician to receive and register Competent Persons and Approved Inspectors notifications

7. Receiving and registering and distributing incoming mail.

8. Liaising with contractors using standard letters, email and via telephone.

Who We’re Looking For
The Housing Grants & Building Control Team administer the Authority Grant applications to provide financial assistance to residents to undertake essential repairs to their homes, and adaptations to enable elderly and disabled residents to maintain their independence and remain in their home. They also administer Building Regulations applications to ensure compliance with Building Regulations in respect of residential and commercial properties.

We are looking to appoint someone who is passionate, wants to learn and can adapt to different tasks to meet the needs of the service. The successful candidate must be proactive and motivated who has strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a QCF (Qualification Credit Framework, formerly NVQ) qualification in Business Administration, Level 3 via a training provider or local college.

What will you be paid?
This is a fixed term post for a two-year period and will start in September 2024. You will be paid National Minimum Wage dependent on age:

• 21 & over £11.42
• 18 - 20 £8.60
• Under 18 £6.40

Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at level 3 or above in the role applied for.

For example, if you have a degree in Civil Engineering you will not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship post. However, you could apply for any other apprenticeship post. Any such applications will not be considered.

Requirements

Skills

An understanding of Council services.
Relevant office based experience, inputting and retrieving data from computer based systems.
Able to complete tasks in agreed timeframes and work to deadlines.

Qualifications

Commitment to work towards a qualification required for the post.

Confident using IT (for example: email and word processing)
