About the apprenticeship

Duties

To support the allocated childcare support worker with direct work within a strengths based approach with children and their families in a flexible manner; i.e. home or community based, evenings and weekends.

To be part of the team who supports families (parents and wider family members) to overcome barriers to change as identified in the Care and Support Plan, supporting them to build their confidence and skills to do so.

Support the case manager or allocated child care support worker in the delivery of identified aspects of the Care and Support Plan.

To support the provision of supervised family time alongside other members of the team.

To identify and communicate any emerging family needs to the case manager which may impact on the planned intervention.
To bring to the attention of the case accountable social worker and team manager any immediate concerns regarding the safety of the child/ young person.
Work closely with the case manager to review plans with families and evaluate interventions as required feeding directly into the care and support planning process.

To attend inter-agency meetings/ liaisons e.g. core groups, case conferences, strategy meetings as required.

Who We’re Looking For
Our Intensive Intervention team offer the opportunity to work with children with wide ranging needs, which includes children subject to care and support plans (CASP), Children Looked After (CLA) and those in the child protection arena.

The team is looking for a highly motivated person who would enjoy the challenge of direct working with children, young people and their families, being part of a supportive and nurturing team and who is committed to achieving best outcomes for children and young people.

The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to win the trust and confidence of children, young people and their parents/carers, have excellent communication skills and have an imaginative and flexible approach and be able to ‘think outside the box’. Candidates will bring their own life experiences to the role.

Who can apply?
In order to apply for this apprenticeship, you must be aged 19 and over.

What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a QCF (Qualification Credit Framework, formerly NVQ) qualification in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) Level 3 via a training provider or local college.

What will you be paid?
This is a fixed term post for a two-year period and will start in September 2024. You will be paid National Minimum Wage dependent on age:

• 21 & over £11.42
• 18 - 20 £8.60
• Under 18 £6.40

Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at level 3 or above in the role applied for.

For example, if you have a degree in Civil Engineering you will not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship post. However, you could apply for any other apprenticeship post. Any such applications will not be considered.

Skills

An understanding of Council services.
Able to complete tasks in agreed timeframes and work to deadlines.

Experience of working with Children and Young People

Qualifications

Ability to undertake a QCF qualification via College/Training Provider related to the job.
Confident using IT (for example: email and word processing).
