About the apprenticeship

Duties

To complete the Apprenticeship Framework and undertake any other training relevant to the role including coaching from a supervisor and on the job training.

Under the guidance and supervision of suitably trained staff, the apprentice will develop skills and abilities in, and assist the various departments with:

Attending and taking part in regular team meetings and regular reviews with line manager etc.

Assisting in ensuring the Council’s vehicle fleet is maintained, serviced and repaired in an economical and efficient manner.

Assisting in carrying out inspections of the vehicle fleet.

Assisting in the maintenance of the plant, equipment and vehicles in connection with Fleet Services.

Undertaking approved training in the area of vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair, with both internal and external training courses.

Undertaking training in safe use and handling of a variety of workshop machinery.

Assisting in ensuring the cleanliness of the workshop, and to ensure the health and safety or self and other workers.

Taking part in emergency call-out scheme, as required.

Undertaking cleaning and greasing duties under supervision.

Taking part in other supervised activities commensurate to the duties of an Apprentice Mechanic.

Do you have a keen interest in vehicles and have a passion for learning how things work? Fleet Services are looking for a motivated and well-organised individual who has excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and is a real team player to join their team.

What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a QCF (Qualification Credit Framework, formerly NVQ) qualification in Repair and Service of Heavy Vehicles, Level 3 via a College.

What will you be paid?
This is a fixed term post for a two-year period and will start in September 2024. You will be paid National Minimum Wage dependent on age:

• 21 & over £11.42
• 18 - 20 £8.60
• Under 18 £6.40

Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at level 3 or above in the role applied for.

For example, if you have a degree in Civil Engineering you will not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship post. However, you could apply for any other apprenticeship post. Any such applications will not be considered.
